Probably something you wouldn’t expect to hear, but Laura Prepon will not be returning in the second season of “Orange Is the New Black”, the latest hit TV series from Netflix.

Laura Prepon plays, or better say played, Piper’s ex-girlfriend and fellow prisoner, Alex. The news seems strange since Alex was one of the main characters in the series and fans still don’t know whether it was a decision taken by the producers or by the actress. “Our season is still developing and nothing is confirmed”, stated the Netflix representatives.

Laura Prepon is an American actress born on March 7, 1980 in Watchung, New Jersey. She grew up in Watchung, into a family of Russian and Irish. Her mother, Marjorie, was a teacher and her father, Michael, an orthopedic surgeon. Laura is the youngest of five children of the family.

She has three sisters, Danielle, Jocelyn, and Stephanie, and a brother, Brad. She studied at Watchung Hills Regional High School, and then, wanting to pursue a career in acting, studied at the Total Theater Lab in New York, under the guidance of Professor Caroline Thomas.

So to begin her acting career, Laura Prepon appeared in commercials, the first being for MCI in 1995, and she had a modeling contract, working in Paris, Milan and also in Brazil.

In 1998 she was cast as Donna Pinciotti, one of the main characters from the series “That ’70s Show”. Laura played Donna for eight seasons, until 2006 when the series ended. If you can’t get enough of Laura, you can watch “That ’70s Show” with the help of comcast offers.

After “That ’70s Show” followed roles in other TV series such as the “October Road”, “How I Met Your Mother” and “In Plain Sight”. On the big screen she starred in movies like “Slackers” (2002), “Lightning Bug” (2004), “Come Early Morning” (2006) and the controversial “Karla” (2006) where she portrayed the serial killer Karla Homolka.

She had a relationship with fellow actor Christopher Masterson, Danny Masterson’s brother, her colleague in the series “That ’70s Show”. In 2005, together with the two brothers, she was executive producer for the poker television program “E! Hollywood Hold ‘Em”.

“Orange is the New Black” talks about Piper Chapman, whose life is turned upside down when, already in her 30s and ready to marry her boyfriend (Jason Biggs), she is sent to prison for a crime committed when she was younger. After college she was head over heels in love with the beautiful Alex (Laura Prepon), and she accepts to bring a bag of money to Brussels. This she becomes involved in a drug trafficking network. She gets 15 months in prison. The educated Piper wakes up in a place where violence reigns, where she doesn’t know what’s right and what’s wrong anymore. Her relationships with fellow inmates always seem to become conflictive, as hierarchy changes, guards take advantage prisoners and those who are in charge of the prison are incompetent and unable to do their job right. Comedy mixed with drama… this show deserves the many fans it already has.
